 The Bank of England is the UK's central bank. Our mission is to deliver monetary and financial stability for the British people.

The Bank of England is a diverse organisation. Each of its 4,000 plus people are committed to public service and dedicated to promoting the good of the people of the United Kingdom by maintaining monetary and financial stability.

The Research Hub is responsible for delivery of world-class research on a wide range of topics as set out in the One Bank Research Agenda to inform the Bank’s policy making.  The department consists of around 30 researchers, including about 10 permanent researchers and 20 rotating short-term internal secondees. The Hub drives research forward by catalysing, managing and pursuing research projects, and fostering external research collaborations, with a particular focus on the priority topics agreed with the Governors. It is responsible for ensuring effective communication of research outputs both internally to policy makers and externally to the wider policy and academic communities. Through its research and associated activities, the Research Hub supports policy-making, enhances the external profile and impact of the Bank's research, and contributes to the development of research skills and capabilities.

Department Overview
The Research Hub conducts high quality research on a wide range of topics to inform the Bank’s policymaking and external policy debate. It has experienced researchers as its core members, and receives researchers from across the Bank on secondment to work on specific research projects for a limited time period.

The research responsibilities consist of the following:

  • Informing the Bank’s policy through own research on the priority topics by presenting research findings internally, including to senior policy makers as appropriate;
  • Influencing the external policy debate through own research, through presentations at high-profile external conferences and seminars.
  • Publishing own research in respected refereed journals.
  • Developing and maintaining a network of contacts, both in the academic and in the central bank research community, to maximise the external impact of the Bank’s research;

Additional responsibilities could include:

  • Editing the Staff Working Papers in own area of expertise.
  • Chairing the seminar organising board and managing the Research Visitor Programme.  This includes setting the strategy and managing the budget for both the seminar series and the Research Visitor Programme.
